In short: Registered in Romania and granted a Class II license for payment services. Client: Malta-based payment services provider (Malta → Romania).
The challenge
A Malta-based payment services business wanted to extend its activities into the Romanian regulated gambling market.
Payment providers that support gambling operators must satisfy not only financial services requirements but also the gambling rules that apply to their role in gaming transactions.
The client needed the right regulatory presence in Romania and the Class II authorization required for its intended activities.
Our approach
Szilaghi Consulting handled the Romanian registration process and prepared the ONJN Class II licensing application.
We reviewed the company's proposed activities, assessed their treatment under the Romanian gambling framework, supported the registration formalities and coordinated the licensing documentation, paying particular attention to how the client's payment services interact with the rules for service providers to licensed operators.
The outcome
The payment services provider completed its registration in Romania and obtained the Romanian Class II gambling license.
The client now has the gambling-specific regulatory framework needed to provide its authorized services in Romania.
Why it matters
Payment processing is one of the most commercially important parts of iGaming operations.
For payment businesses entering regulated gambling markets, the relationship between financial services rules and gambling licensing obligations is essential, and this engagement reflects our work with payment businesses in the regulated gaming ecosystem.
Client details are withheld by policy. Romanian Class II licensees can be checked in the ONJN public register; references are available on request, with the client's consent.
